“Always without desire we must be found,
If its deep mystery we would sound;
But if desire always within us be,
Its outer fringe is all that we shall see.”
~ The Tao Te Ching by Lao-Tzu (Part I, Section 3)
Translated by Jame Lagge
In the beginning, there was stillness. A great ultimate force or what some consider God creates the grand universe. The grand universe consists of the heavens and earth. In Chinese philosophy, humans being a part of the grand universe, are each considered to be a small universe. The heaven of the small universe is the brain which operates as a spiritual center. Earth is in the gut which controls the physical body. The mind is the ultimate force that governs the spiritual, emotional, mental and physical parts of ourselves to create our lives.
The mind is very powerful: it can go into the future, back in time or stay in the present. The mind can go anywhere in the world or even the universe. The body, however, remains relatively in place. The mind can create spiritual highs or sink to emotional lows. When the mind is chaotic, it creates a world filled with chaos. How can your mind be a great ally instead of a bitter enemy?
The Feldenkrais Method® uses awareness of movement to train the mind and body to produce more potent actions. Actions are composed of thoughts, sensations, feelings and movement. Through a series of movements and questions, students learn how they normally act and develop a process for creating new actions. Their minds become more flexible and better able to manage thinking, sensing, feeling and moving. When your mind becomes your greatest ally you may discover ways to resolve pain issues, eliminate destructive habits and/or achieve your goals..
To enjoy life out in the grand universe, we need to know how to use our minds to rule the small universe within us. In this holiday season, enrich your interior life with www.s3nse.org. When you have the gift of mindfulness, you will thrive in your universe: both grand and small.
