No matter where one is in life, each breath is an opportunity for a new beginning.
I am in Northern MA, helping my family care for my mom. Sitting at her bedside, I notice her peaceful breathing. It is natural and effortless, almost as if she just finished a breathing lesson.
I observe four distinct parts: inhale, pause, exhale and another pause. Each phase is about the same in duration and smoothly transitions from one to the next. Gradually, our breaths become synchronized.
In these moments, we do not fret about the past nor worry about the future. We simply be with each other. And for now, that is enough.
