S3NSE: Inner Strength - Outer Focus

“…Self-knowledge through awareness is the goal of re-education. As we become aware of what we are doing in fact, and not what we say or think we are doing, the way to improvement is wide open to us.” Moshe Feldenkrais What is your inner strength? Is it willpower, self-confidence or could it be something else? Do people have a hidden superpower? If so, what is it and how do you learn to use it? Elizabeth was born missing one-third of her cerebellum. This part of the brain is responsible for co-ordinating and controlling movement as well as balance and attention. Medical experts told Elizabeth’s parents that she would not live a normal life and probably have to be institutionalized. Luckily, one of them referred her to Moshe Feldenkrais. During their first session Feldenkrais saw that Elizabeth had the ability to learn. He told her parents that they would see her dance at her own wedding. Elizabeth continued her sessions with Feldenkrais and then Anat Benial. Her learning superpowers led to a happy childhood and academic achievement. She earned not one but two advanced degrees. The story ends Elizabeth dancing at her own wedding with Anat as one of her guests. You can read more in Norman Doidge’s book “The Brain’s Way of Healing”. Australian Dave loved to learn. He was intrigued with the idea of using the Feldenkrais Method to help the herniated and deteriorated discs in his back. Dave took private sessions and group classes from Physical Therapist and Feldenkrais Practitioner, Kim Wise. It soon became a regular practice and one of his favorite activities. Every lesson was an opportunity to learn something new about himself. Kim used Feldenkrais to compliment her physical therapy work with Dave. By learning how to create healthier movement patterns, Dave reduced the strain and stress on his spine. The soft gentle movement of Feldenkrais also enhanced his natural healing abilities. Dave is pain free and has the x-rays to prove it. We all have the ability to use our awareness to re-educate ourselves. It is a skill that can be learned and continuously refined. How could you use this superpower? Find out by joining S3NSE for regular free online classes and soon, private sessions.
